Russia Criticizes Germany's Actions Against Journalist
(MENAFN) Russia has strongly criticized the treatment of Sergey Feoktistov, the head of the Rossiya Segodnya bureau in Berlin, after he alleged that German police had confiscated the passports of his wife and daughter.
This incident follows the European Union's decision in 2023 to impose sanctions on Rossiya Segodnya, accusing the Russian state-run media agency of spreading "disinformation" regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier in the month, German authorities refused to renew Feoktistov's residency permit, giving him until August 19 to either leave the country or face deportation.
The journalist stated that he had flown to Berlin to assist his family with relocation but was not permitted to enter the country.
He further revealed that German police had come to the apartment where he once lived with his family, and where his wife and seven-year-old daughter currently reside, to seize their passports.
Feoktistov explained that the authorities suspected his wife and daughter might try to evade the order to leave Germany by the deadline of August 19.
In response to these events, Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia's Foreign Ministry, accused Germany of intentionally targeting journalists and media organizations in a bid to eliminate "alternative points of view."
Dmitry Kiselyov, the head of Rossiya Segodnya, also suggested that Germany was preparing its public for "a war with Russia."
