Germany Warns of Potential Russian Threat to NATO

(MENAFN) Germany’s foreign intelligence agency (BND) head has suggested that Russia could potentially target NATO countries after the conclusion of the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Bruno Kahl made this statement as part of his defense for a significant increase in military expenditure in Germany.

He explained that Ukraine is just one phase of Russia’s broader strategy towards the West, reinforcing the necessity for Germany to bear additional debt in support of a comprehensive rearmament plan and the possible reinstatement of conscription.

Kahl elaborated that intelligence data supports this belief and emphasized that some influential figures in Moscow have begun to doubt whether NATO’s Article 5 would be honored.

He further pointed out that these individuals might want to test NATO’s commitment to collective defense.

In particular, Russia is said to question America’s willingness to protect its allies, especially in sending troops “across the Atlantic to die for Tallinn, Riga, or Vilnius.”

In his remarks, Kahl suggested that Russia could deploy "little green men" to Estonia under the pretext of safeguarding the Russian-speaking minority in the Baltic nation.

The term "little green men" was originally coined by Western media during the 2014 Crimean crisis, where Russian commandos were sent to secure Crimea ahead of a referendum that saw the region break away from Ukraine and rejoin Russia following the US-backed coup in Kiev.
