Fatak knife assault at school in France
The attacker was subdued at the scene and is now in custody at the Nogent gendarmerie. The incident occurred amid growing concern over knife-related violence in French schools, prompting authorities to increase random bag searches as a preventive measure.
In an official statement, police confirmed: “A student pulled out a knife and seriously injured a teaching assistant” during the inspection. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the act, calling it part of “a senseless wave of violence.”
Prime Minister François Bayrou expressed condolences on X, noting that the victim leaves behind a young son. He emphasized the urgent need to confront knife violence among youth, describing it as a rising national threat.
Following a similar fatal stabbing at a school in Nantes in April, Bayrou had called for more thorough checks in and around educational institutions. Between late March and late April, French authorities conducted 958 school bag searches, seizing 94 knives, according to the Education Ministry.
